1. What does NutriMill “Limited Life Time Warranty” cover?
The NutriMill “Limited Lifetime Warranty” guarantees the mill (Motor-Milling Chamber) to be “free of manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship”.
Defects in the plastic parts (Canister, Stand, and Filter) are warranted for 6 years.
2. Where will I find hopper extension?
Your mill’s hopper extension is removable for storage. It arrives inside the flour pan. (Look closely it might look like a part of the flour pan at first glance because it “hugs” the wall of the pan.)
3. What is the separator cup used for? DO I have to use it? Where does it fit?
The separator cup is the air filtering mechanism, separating the flour from the air and is necessary for clean milling. It will snap on to on the bottom of the flour pan lid.
4. TROUBLE SHOOTING: Is it ever common for my new mill to have a burning smell?
Yes. It’s not uncommon for a mill to have a slight ‘burning’ smell when first used. As the motor heats up, oil/grease residue from the manufacturing process is dissipated – this is normal. This will not affect your milling.

5. What is the big knob on the back of the mill used for?
This is a pin that connects the milling chamber to the base. When you twist the knob 1/4 turn, the pin will come out
6. What grains can be milled in my NutriMill?
Non-oily grains and legumes like wheat, rye, spelt, millet, rice, corn, beans, quinoa, amaranth, and oats.
7. What should I avoid grinding in my NutriMill?
Oily grains like chia, flax, nuts, coffee beans,Hemp seed,Goji berries
Grains with high moisture content
Spices
Seeds
Sugar
8. Why should I avoid milling moist grain, oily grains and seeds, such as flax seed, etc?
Excess moisture can cause any mill to plug. Moisture can come from very humid air or from grain that isn’t dry enough. That grain may also absorb moisture from humid air. It’s important to buy from a reputable dealer and to store your grain in cool and dry environment.
Oily grains, spices and coffee will plug the mill very quickly.
9. How can I test moisture content of a grain or know if it is oily?
Anytime you are not certain about a particular grain, initially mill only a very small quantity. To test the moisture content of a particular grain, mill only about 1/4 cup. Open the pan and pinch the milled flour between your fingers. If the flour clumps together, the grain is too moist and should be avoided. If the flour is powdery and does not stick together it will be safe to mill.
You can also take a few grains and crush them between layers of paper towel with a hammer or with a pair of pliers. If oil or moisture is visible on the towel, it has too much.
10. I milled flax seed in my NutriMill. Now what can I do?
The mill heads need to be cleaned by a L'EQUIP-certified service tech. We will be glad to clean your NutriMill Milling Heads for you, for a fee of $50, which includes the cost of disassembly, cleaning and balancing the Milling heads, re-assembly of milling module, and return shipping (WARNING: If milling heads are not perfectly balanced, your mill will self-destruct when next used. This is a delicate process, and must be handled by a trained technician. Please do not attempt to disassemble and clean the milling module yourself, it will cost you much more than $50 to replace the entire mill!). 11. Can I grind brown rice in my NutriMill? What settings should I use?
Brown rice is a little difficult to feed from the hopper to the milling heads. While wheat has a ‘slippery’ surface, brown rice does not, and there are many varieties of brown rice. It tends to cling together and feeds slowly.
The flow-control valve and the inlet cover regulate the flow of grain into the milling heads. As the ‘finer – coarser’ knob is turned to the right – clockwise – the grain should flow into the milling heads more quickly.
When milling brown rice, open the flow control valve as far as you need to. You may also want to \"stir\" the rice with your fingers to help it to feed into the mill.
12. TROUBLE SHOOTING: If I notice some flour escaping from the side of my NutriMill canister, what should I do?
The mill may sometimes leak a small amount of flour when milling on the ‘fine’ setting (10:00 – 11:00 O’clock) (lots of air and little flour blowing into the bowl). Try milling a canister of flour at a 12:00 – 2:00 o’clock setting to see if it makes a difference.
Remember to empty the separator cup and clean the filter after each use. Also, ‘dust off’ the square white rubber grommet on the canister lid with a pastry brush to make sure the crevices are not full of flour.
Check to make sure the little black rubber nub in the wall of the stand has not come loose. If you can lift the edge of it with your finger then this might not allow the flour canister to seat properly. Put a drop of super glue under the edge of it to tack it down.
13. Where can I buy replacement parts for my NutriMill?
You can purchase replacement parts through one of our dealers. There is a dealer locator on most every page.
14. How long should it take to mill a batch of flour?
Time will vary depending upon the grain used and the setting of the control valve (on/off knob). Turning the knob further to the right allows the grain to flow faster and milling to be done more quickly, however flour will be coarser. For bread flour the mill should normally be set between 12:00 – 1:00. The Nutrimill is designed to give you complete control of your milling so you can get desired results.
A level hopper of wheat = 12 cups.
At the 11:00 setting
12 cups takes approximately 22 minutes
6 cups takes approximately 9 ½ minutes
3 cups takes approximately 4 ¾ minutesAt the 1:00 setting

15. Can you use wheat flour in recipes calling for white flour?
∙ In yeast breads, double the yeast and/or let it rise longer.∙ In baking powder leavened products, increase baking powder by 1 tsp for every 3 cups whole wheat flour. Recipes using baking soda need not be adjusted.∙ Use 7/8 cup flour (or ••• cup plus 2 Tbsp) for each cup white flour in recipes. Whole wheat flour absorbs more liquid than all‐purpose flour, so along with using less flour, it may benecessary to increase the liquid.∙ Don’t over stir—it develops the gluten and can make the baked goods tough.∙ In baked products using eggs, separate the eggs and beat whites until stiff. Then fold in just before baking. For extra lightness, an extra separated egg may be added. Good for waffles and especially cakes.
